How UnsentPDF keeps your files private
UnsentPDF edits PDFs inside your browser tab. Your documents are never uploaded, so there is nothing on a server to leak, sell or hand over.
How it works
- The site is a set of static files. When you open a PDF, your browser reads it from your disk into the tab’s memory and does every edit there.
- The page carries a strict security policy that forbids it from contacting any other website. Automated tests check that opening, editing and saving a file makes no network requests at all.
- Saving creates the new file in your browser and hands it to your downloads. It never passes through a server.
- No accounts, no cookies, no analytics, no advertising.
- After the first visit the app is stored by your browser, so it also works with no internet connection.
Check it yourself
- Open UnsentPDF, then disconnect from the internet (or switch on flight mode).
- Open, edit and save a PDF. Everything still works, because nothing needs the network.
- For more detail, open your browser’s developer tools, go to the Network tab and watch: working on a file adds no requests.
What we cannot see, and what others can
- The host (Cloudflare Pages) serves the app’s files, so like any website it receives ordinary request details such as your IP address and browser. It never receives your documents.
- Cloudflare also asks Chrome-based browsers to report failed attempts to load the site’s files (“network error logging”). Such a report names the page address and the error, never a document. We cannot switch this off on the free address.
- Browser extensions you have installed can read web pages, including this one. That is outside our control.
